What does mange tout mean?

What does mange tout mean?
Mange tout may mean. .. such simple descriptions ..
1 Mangetout is a pea. It's just another name for it.
Actually, it's a young variety of edible pea, typically "snow peas", "sugar peas" or "sugar snap peas". With "mange tout" you can eat the pod, as well as the peas inside. "Mange tout" is based on the French words "manger" (meaning "to eat") and "tout" (meaning "all"), hence, "eat all".
2 The snow pea which is a legume, more specifically a variety of pea eaten whole in its pod while still unripe. The name mangetout (French for “eat all”) can apply both to snow peas and to snap peas. Also known as the snow or sugar pea, mangetout are a flat podded variety of pea, eaten whole while the peas within are still very small hence the French name, which means ‘eat everything’. Crisp and sweet, they can be served raw, or lightly steamed, boiled or stir-fried.
3 Snap peas also known as sugar snap peas, are a cultivar group of edible podded peas that differ from snow peas in that their pods are round as opposed to flat. The name mangetout (French for "eat all") can apply both to snap peas and snow peas.
The plants are climbing, and pea sticks or a trellis or other support system is required for optimal growth.
The snap pea is a cool season vegetable. i.e Snow peas can be grown in open fields during cool seasons.
They are had in salads or eaten whole. They may also be stir-fried or steamed. Before being eaten, mature snap pea pods may need to be "stringed". Fresh pods are eaten as a whole.
Use them early while the pods are fresh, and crispy. The pods have string that needs to be removed before eating them raw or in cooking. To prepare, wash the pods in cold water, and pat dry. Trim the stem end and remove the stringy fiber on either side of the pod.
Raw sugar snap peas are a great addition to vegetable salads along with carrots, celery stalks, peppers n beets.
Always buy firm, vibrant green pods that are not limp or discolored. Mangetout will remain crisp and fresh in the fridge for up to three days. They can be blanched and frozen.
if they are consumed as a whole, they have relatively high content of dietary fiber.
