Vanilla Sauce


Vanilla Sauce
At times, it seems like everything in Germany is covered in Vanilla Sauce; strudel, dumplings, cake and ice cream. It’s a thin egg custard, and very good if you make it with real vanilla and eggs.
MAKE THE TASTY VANILLA SAUCE:
What all ingredients will be needed are 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cups milk n 1\2 tsp vanilla extract.
Beat the egg yolks and sugar together until the yolks are thick.
Put the milk to a boil in a a thick bottom pan, then pour the egg yolks in a thin stream, using a whisk or electric mixer to stir constantly. Pour back into pan and heat without boiling until it coats the back of a spoon.
Take the pan off the heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Serve warm or cold.
The sauce can be prepared a day ahead, cooled, covered, and refrigerated.
