ALWAYS WANTED 2 KNOW THEIR MEANING....

There are so many words used related 
to food, that we always wanted to know ,
what they actually meant..
What are ‘ Bruschetta '

Bruschetta is an appetizer  from central Italy , 
it consists of grilled bread rubbed with garlic
and topped with extra-virgin olive oil , salt 
and pepper.
Variations may include toppings of spicy, 
red peppers , tomatoes and other vegetables, 
beans, cured meat, or cheese; the most popular 
recipe outside of Italy involves, basil fresh, 
tomato, garlic and onion or mozzarella.
Bruschetta is usually served as a ' snack
or appetizer'.
Appetizers, are food items served before 
the main courses.
Finger food is food eaten directly using
the hands, in contrast to food eaten with
a knife and fork ,chopsticks, or other utensils.
In some cultures, food is almost always eaten 
with the hands.
An Entrée is one of several savory courses 
in a Western-style and South American-style 
formal meal; specifically, a smaller course
that precedes the main course. 
The Entrée is called the first course,
appetizer or starter.

A Main dish is the featured or primary 
dish in a meal consisting of several
courses. It usually follows the entrée
("entry") course, and the salad course.
The main dish is usually the heaviest, 
heartiest, and most complex or
substantive dish on a menu.
A full course dinner is a dinner consisting
of multiple dishes, or courses.
In its simplest form, it can consist of three
or four courses, such as soup, salad,  meat 
and dessert.

Cocktail is an alcoholic mixed drink that 
contains two or more ingredients , at least 
one of the ingredients must be a spirit. 
Cocktails were originally a mixture of spirits,
sugar, water, and bitters.  The word has come
to mean almost any mixed drink that contains
alcohol. 
A cocktail today usually contains one or more
kinds of spirit and one or more mixers, such
as soda or fruit juice. Additional ingredients 
may be ice, sugar, honey, milk, cream, and
various herbs.

A Canapé is a small, prepared and usually
decorative food, held in the fingers and
often eaten in one bite.Because they are
often served during cocktail hours, it is 
often desired that a canapé be either salty 
or spicy, in order to encourage guests to 
drink more.
A canapé may also be referred to as finger 
food, although not all finger foods are canapés.
Crackers or small slices of bread or toast or 
puff pastry, cut into various shapes, serve 
as the base for savory butters or pastes.
A  vol-au-vent in French means  a small 
hollow  case of puff pastry. A round opening
is cut in the top and the pastry cut out for the
opening is replaced as a lid after the case is filled.
Vol-au-vents can accommodate various fillings,
such as mushrooms, prawns, fruit, or cheese.
Mascarpone  is an Italian triple-cream cheese .

Sorbet is a frozen dessert made from sweetened 
water flavored with fruit , typically juice or puree,
wine, and/or liqueur..
Sorbets/sherbets may also contain alcohol, 
which lowers the cold temperature, resulting
in softer texture.
Ice cream is a frozen dessert usually made 
from dairy products, such as milk and cream, 
and often combined with fruits or other 
ingredients and flavors.
Most varieties contain sugar, the meaning 
of the term ice cream varies from one country 
to another.
Terms like frozen custard, frozen yogurt, 
sorbet, gelato and others are used to distinguish different varieties and styles.. 
Granita  is a semi-frozen dessert made from sugar,
water and various flavorings.

Pudding characteristically denotes a sweet
milk-based dessert similar in consistency to
egg-based custards, though it may also refer
to other types such as bread and rice pudding.
Gelato is an ancient Italian frozen dessert, a far
more recent variant of which is the American 
ice cream. As such, gelato is made with some
of the same ingredients as most other frozen 
dairy desserts. Milk, cream, various sugars,
flavoring including fruit and nut purees are
the main ingredients.
Gelato is different from some ice cream because 
it has a lower butterfat content. Gelato typically
contains 4-8% butterfat, versus 14% for ice cream
in the United States. Gelato has a higher sugar
content than ice cream..
Gelato is typically flavored with fresh fruit 
purees, cocoa and/or nut pastes.
If other ingredients such as chocolate flakes,
nuts, small confections, cookies, or biscuits
are added, they are added after the gelato is 
frozen. Gelato made with fresh fruit, sugar,
and water and without dairy ingredients is
sorbet.
Ais kacang is a Malaysian dessert. 
Traditionally a special ice machine is used
to churn out the shaved ice used in the dessert, originally hand cranked but now more often
motorized. Formerly, it was made of only 
shaved ice and red beans.
Today, ice kacang generally comes in bright 
colours, and with different fruit cocktails 
and dressings..

syrup and ice ingredients…
A milkshake is a sweet, cold beverage which 
is made from milk, ice cream or iced milk, and
flavorings or sweeteners such as fruit syrup 
or chocolate sauce..
A soda fountain is a device that dispenses 
carbonated drinks.
The device combines syrup, carbon dioxide, 
and water to make soft drinks…
The sundae is an ice cream dessert. 
It typically consists of a scoop of ice cream
topped with sauce or syrup, and in some
cases other toppings including chopped
nuts, sprinkles, whipped cream, or cherries…
