Orange, lemon, or grapefruit peel can be candied ...
Many citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits all can be candied.
Candied orange zest/rind is the orange part of the orange peel boiled and candied in a heavy syrup.
Follow few simple steps 2 get homemade candied peels.
Start by using a knife or a citrus peeler to score the peel off the orange into quarters. Peel the oranges carefully, trying to keep the peels intact.
Remove the bitter white pith that is underside of the peels.
Now cut the peels into long, thin strips.
Take one cup water n half a cup sugar, put to heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar, until the sugar boils for 5 minutes.
Now add the strips of peel and turn the heat to low, cook until the sugar syrup reduces n coats the peels. Do not stir.
Take the pan off the heat and allow it to cool.
Drain the extra syrup. On a plate spread few spoons sugar and roll | coat all the peels in it.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees [warm oven ], line the baking tray with aluminum foil. Arrange all the peels on the tray n put into the oven.
Check in between.
Candied citrus peel makes a delicious snack by itself, or dipped in chocolate. It is also an excellent ingredient in many candy making and baking recipes.
Store in an airtight | plastic container, and keep it in a dry place.
